This week in class we have been learning about ancient Egypt. I learned many cool facts about how great and even strange their society was. The coolest fact I learned was that not only did they mummify the pharaohs and other important people, they also mummified the animals of those people had. Mostly cats but other animals were found also. Cats were treated with as much respect as priests and pharaohs. They were sacred animals to Egypt and even the people who fed them were treated with great respect. If you killed a cat in ancient Egypt no mater what you were put to death. A Roman solider once killed a cat on accident and a angry mob beat the solider to death. In one of the wars against Egypt they held cats as prisoners and Egypt surrendered. I can’t believe how much the Egyptians worshiped the cats.
Posted by Caribou Well I learned that in Egypt they made the dead bodies of Pharos a giant tomb called pyramids. I think it’s interesting that the people who made the pyramids put exciting and deadly traps to keep thieves out of them to rob the treasures. It’s also cool that you need most of your things to get to the afterlife. You could even get mummified pets. It’s also cool that you haft to move your organs in different containers in order to get to the afterlife.
Posted by Lion The most interesting thing I learned about ancient Egypt was, that they thought that dough rose from the power of the gods. I find this interesting because, it is one of the crazy religious beliefs that they have. Another crazy religious belief they had was that they thought that there pharaoh was a human form of the god Horus. Another crazy belief that they had was, the thought that certain days of they year where more evil than others. It would be like if I said that tomorrow evil spirits would be causing more people bad luck than today.
The most interesting thing that I learned from Egypt is thatt there are two gods that i didn't know that protect the mummies. For an example the Falcon-headed God protected the Intestines. The Bboon-headed protected the lungs. That is the most interesting thing I learned while studying Egypt.
The most interesting thing I learned about Ancient Egypt was the pets that the Egyptians had. They had cats, dogs, birds and even monkeys. They thought that cats were very important and they worshipped them; so they built statues of them, and they even mummified some of them. Dogs were just regular pets. The bird is also an important symbol, because Pharaohs were usually portrayed in drawings as having the head of a falcon. And as for the monkeys, you had to be wary, because some monkeys were nice and calm, and some were mean and wild. So I think the pet choice for the Ancient Egyptians was a little odd.
One interesting fact about Ancient Egypt is that when Egyptians' pets died, the pet owner would shave off his/her eyebrows in grief. This is interesting because today, we would never even think of that. We would be sad for a month, and get over it, no scars shown. But the Egyptians loved their pets very much, and treated them as part of the family. They sacrificed their eyebrows for them. I think that is very kind of them to respect animals so much because it is the right thing to do.
I thought the most interesting thing that I learned about the Ancient Egyptians was that King Tut (King Tutankhamun) was not a very important pharaoh. Actually, he wasn't important at all! The thing that made him so famous was that his pyramid that he was buried in was like a maze. When archeologists found it, it was very well hidden, and all his treasures were there, which means invaders never found his tomb! I think that is very interesting because most pyramids were invaded and all their treasures were gone, but now they have overcome that challenge. This proves that the Ancient Egyptians were very smart.
Wolf said... The most interesting fact I learned today was when I heard that the eygptians had to give a percentage of there goods to the Pharaoh. Frankly, I dont think that is fair at all. Even though he is the ruler, it does not mean he has to take stuff away from the people. He already has pretty much every thing he could ever want. So if you were a slave in Eygpt you would get paid with a little bit of food, then you might have to give it to the Pharaoh. I dont know about you, but I think that is really unfair how someone so wealthy could be so selfish.
One thing that’s really interesting about ancient Egypt is that doctors were trained priests. This is interesting because now in our day you have to specialize in nursing or being a doctor. They also performed surgery and repaired broken bones. So although they might have not specialized in being a doctor or nursing they were still really good at medical related things.
The most interesting thing I have learned about ancient Egypt is that men and women both wore make-up. They applied eyeliner (berries, water and other substances mixed to create a sort of paste) daily. They also added rouge and perfumed oils that softened their skin and prevented sunburns. The higher the position in the social pyramid, the more clothes and make-up they wore. This interested me because I didn't know that there was eyeliner that long ago, and because I had absolutely no clue that men Egyptians wore make-up as well.
The most interesting fact about Ancient Egypt is... King Tut's tomb hidden and how smart he was to hide his tomb. It is very interesting because when he died his tomb was hidden and nobody was able to find it till 1922. When they found King Tut's tomb they saw so many valuable treasures from a long time ago. Thats is how King Tut's tomb makes it interesting. It makes it interesting cause nobody was able to find the tomb till 1922.
In addition King Tut was very smart to hide his tomb so none of the robbers would take his jewelry. King tut was never famous till now cause he hid his tomb and someone found it.
In conclusion thats how King Tut's tomb was a very interesting fact I ever learned.
One fact that I learned about ancient Egypt is that slaves had their own rights. Back then you could be a slave by getting captured in a war and if you owed someone money and didn’t have it so you would pay them back by being a slave for a certain period of time. When you were a slave you would be able to own personal items, inherit land from your master and be set free. If your master was rich and he died you could get killed and be rein craniate and live a new life with your master. Slavery today and back then were very different.
The most interesting thing I learned about Ancient Egypt is the complexity of the tombs the Egyptians made for their pharaohs. I find that interesting because they made different passages that were like a labyrinth, some were dead ends and some led to where the burial chamber is/was. Some of the passages had fake doors that may have the burial chamber behind it. What makes this fact interesting is how smart the Egyptians were to figure out a way to keep people from robbing the tombs. Because of this, we were able to learn about the past Egyptian pharaohs and the way the Egyptians respected them.
by shark one interesting fact i learned about the egyptians was that they lugged and carried 2,350,000 blocks of sandstone to make the great pyramid. some of those blocks weighed over 5,000 pounds. I thought that this was a cool fact because some of our modern equiptment cant do what they did. and they did it by hand so i thought that was pretty cool fact.
What i find most interesting was facts about scribes. When you think about our day and how everybody goes to school and learns to read and write. Then you think about how in Egypt, only people with a lot of money went to scribe school and only a few passed the class. It's also interesting how much scribes wrote down. They wrote down taxes, Pharaohs speeches, wedding information, and kept track of good trades. Now a days we just click a button on our computer. It's cool to see how much things have changed.
I have learned many interesting things about ancient Egypt. There was one fact in particular that impressed me. To become a scribe you had to be in a wealthy family and you went to a special school. You went at the age of about nine and training took seven to twelve years to complete. After passing only then could you write on papyrus scrolls. This fact is interesting to me because this was probably the only kind of school and it took twelve years just to write on papyrus and you had to be wealthy. What makes this so intriguing is that only the wealthy people higher up in the social pyramid could learn. I can’t imagine learning for twelve years just so I can write on papyrus!
My favorite fact about Egypt, is when the pharoh is about 32 years old the Egyptians start building the tume. Then when the pharoh dies he gets put in a cave with boobey traps and false tunnels, so no one will find him . Also the egyptians put food and gold in the cave for the pharohs afterlife.
I think the most interesting fact I learned about Egypt was king Tut wasn't all that important. The only reason he was famous was because the pyramid he was burred in was set up so it was hard to find him. And when they did find him in the 1920's his tomb remained untouched. I thought that that was interesting because his tomb remained untouched for that long.
One of the Most Interesting Facts About Ancient Egypt. (I’ve learned so many great facts!) Ancient Egyptians liked to recycle. Well at least in the way of names. Ancient Egyptians often gave sons and daughters the same name as theirs or other relatives. I find this super-cool because they had numbers in their name like Ramasses ll. It also makes me ponder, how can scientists tell the various mummies apart when they all had the same name? I also think; could the ancient Egyptians have believed in recarnation and is that why they were so repetitive when choosing names?
The first pyramid (the step pyramid of djoser) had a 34 foot tall wall. It had 15 doors but only one of them opened. I think this is interesting because this shows how smart the Egyptians were they were very clever putting 15 doors in but only 1 opens and on top of that there is a wall of defense.
We have been learning about Ancient Egypt and I think that most interesting fact I learned was that King Tut wasn’t famous because he was a great king he wasn’t even a good king. What made him famous was the place where he was buried. When people found him it took a long time to find his pyramid. And when someone discovered him everything was there all his special items and there wasn’t anything missing. The people who buried him were very smart because they knew people were going to try to find king tut’s pyramid. There were so many pyramids that got invaded with stolen jewels and people found where they were buried they mostly found everything that belonged to the pharaoh but when king tut was buried no one ever found his special items.
Posted By Giraffe I think the most interesting thing I learned about ancient Egypt is how the Egyptians were always naked. I think this is interesting because now people would probably get arrested. Also people now would probably think that the person is drunk. One last reason why I picked this topic is because it’s just gross seeing people naked.
I think that the most interesting fact is that they would take out some organs. I thought that was cool because they would take them out or leave them in from how much they are needed. They thought the heart was unnecessary so they would take it out. Also they would put them with all their favorite foods. Because they thought they would need it in the other world. They would also bury them with money gold and all their possessions.
I think that there are a lot of really interesting facts about Egypt. My favorite fact is how during mummification they would put four important organs in separate containers and throw away the brain. It is interesting because we need the brain to live. Also the Egyptians were very smart and they didn’t know that we need the brain. That is why I find that fact interesting.
The most interesting fact I learned was that they hunted hippos and alligators for fun. If they had nothing to do, they used sharp throwing sticks. Throwing sticks were a small version of a spear, and a big version of an arrow. I think that is strange, because they are afraid of being eaten by one, but will hunt them. I personally would not go do that because they used a raft and an alligator could just snap from underneath.
My intresting fact about ancient Egypt is how there manners are so diferent from ours. What they do different is they dip their hands in a bowl of water before every meal. They eat with their hands only and they cant stare at there food it would be very rude just like we shouldn't have our elbowes on the table while we are eating.I picked this because i thought it was so interesting how there manners are so diiferent because they didnt have the things we have today and it showes how they really ajusted to there sourondings very well.
Egyptians painted their wealthy women with pale skin. They did this because it shows that the women sat at home all day and did not work in the fields. Rich men were painted with fat bellies. They did this because they thought being fat was a sign that you could afford lots of food and drink. I think this is an interesting fact because in are society today most rich men hire personal trainers and most rich women sit in the sun and tan.
We read and learned many facts about ancient Egyptians. There were a few that interested me, but the one I chose was hieroglyphs. That’s what the student scribes used to write. Student scribes took up to ten years to memorize the several hundred hieroglyphs signs. There are hundreds and hundreds of them, and for a young kid to memorize all of those, that’s what I call a nightmare. This interested me, because I wonder how the kids memorized all of them. When the student scribes are older they will have to write taxes, speeches and many other important things.
I have learned so much about the Ancient Egyptians. But my favorite thing was learning about Cleopatra. She was a very independent woman. She was Egypt’s 7th female pharaoh. She became the Pharaoh when she was just 17 years old. She had a relationship with Julius Caesar but after his assassination she moved on to Mark Antony. With Mark Antony she had 3 children. After losing a battle, Mark Antony killed himself. By the bite of an Asp, she soon ended her life, and over 3,000 years of dynastic rule.
There was a lot of captivating topics I learned from the Ancient Egyptian’s society. One particularly riveting chunk of information was how ancient gods were thought to be. The lotus flower sprouted from darkness and in was Ra the sun god who later retreated to the heavens. Ra was giving life to the world. As other gods formed, Horus was the father of all Pharaohs (or so the Egyptians believed). Depending on the climate it was either a blessing or a punishment since the pharaohs were thought to be gods. A bad crop season meant you had to be on edge after all, the people blame you! Religion was at the top of the civilization; the Egyptians thought highly of their gods and built many temples in their honor. Un-real gods helped them like it helped many others to have a clear grasp on the way things worked in the world. Things were scary back then and if making up tales caused them to feel stronger, so be it.
The most interesting fact that I learned about Ancient Egypt is that when pyramids were built, they would hide the mummy of a pharaoh somewhere inside it. I think this is interesting because I thought a pyramid was just were a pharaoh lived. This is also interesting because I thought I read something about some pharaoh tombs underneath the middle of the desert. I know most of the tombs were raided, but in King Tut’s, everything was still there!
I think that the funniest fact that I learned is that the ancient Egyptians used to make pyramids with outer walls that went straight up. They were cubes! The reason that they started to make them slanted is because they could not get the stones from the bottom of the pyramid to the top of the pyramid. Then they started to make pyramids that were straight at the bottom and slanted at the top. Then those types of pyramids eventually became only slanted. That’s the funniest fact that I learned.

I learned a lot this week but if I had to pick one it would be about the scribes that they had to have a lot of money to get to school. But you say now most people can afforded school and we mostly all go to middle school then high school then collage but Egyptians rarely pass there grades in school. Only the ones that pass have to be very intelligent to pass that grade. If you’re sick most likely you will not past that grade because you missed. Mean while if they pass they are used to work and write down trades and speeches and now you look back then ad say how different it was.
The most interesting thing I learned about this week was about King Tut. The thing I learned was that his tomb wasn’t found until 1922. And I thought this was interesting because it took the people 20 years to find it. And another thing I thought was interesting and funny was that the people that were actually looking for his tomb didn’t find it. The water boy found it, and after 20 plus years they found it by the water boy sticking the sharp end of the water cooler in the sand and hitting it. And that’s why it was interesting to me.
I learned a lot of things about ancient Egypt. One thing that interested me was that there were 2 short hand scripts for daily use instead of hieroglyphs. I find this interesting because I thought hieroglyphs were the writing system back then. Usually medicine would interest me but surprisingly it didn’t. I guess I didn’t know this because I’ve only ever seen the things that they did write with hieroglyphs like state inscriptions. I guess a note to a friend wouldn’t be as interesting as a law to us. Also it was cool that there are 2 different ones. Hieratic and demotic, hieratic was used for keeping records and accounts and writing letters until around the 26th dynasty. Then the demotic came into play and the hieratic was used for religious texts and the demotic for everything else. Something I didn’t know is always interesting to me.
One thing that I thought was interesting was the process of mummification. It was really cool how they had to take out all of their organs that would rot. It is also cool how their workers sometimes also died with them so that they could work together in the afterlife. Also, mostly rich people got to get mummified. When they got mummified, they also killed their pets if they had any so they could go to the afterlife with them too. They also buried all of the things that they thought that they would need for the afterlife with them.
One fact that was interesting was that sometimes they would burie you in the deep in the pyramid's . It was interesting because nobody would would search in deep into the pyramids. There was this mummy that was found in the deep ice from years and years ago. n class were learning about ancient Egypt. One fact that was interesting was, they would burie you in the pyramids. They buried kings and people with money deep into the the pyramid. If you did not have money they would just burie you any were. If you get buried really deep in and nobody founds you may become famous. That why that was interesting for me.
i think an interesting fact about egypt is that one block from the pyramnid of giza wieghs 2 tons. this is interesting because there is so many blocks and they must have been really hard to stack and get them up to high heights. and it took them 20 years to make. Thats what i thought was a very interesting fact because one little block is as heavy as 2 elephants.
This weak in class i learned alot of very interesting facts about ancient egypt. The most interesting fact i learned was that the people that work on pyramids have no house to live becuase they have no time to make one so people that arent working on pyramids made a little village for them so they would have a house. I thought that was interesting because it helped the people that made the pyramids alot.
i think that king tut was the most interesting thing because i found out king tut was not that great. pepole just think that because his tomb was untouched it had all that gold, sivler jewles and his mummy. im suprised that a water boy found king tuts tomb pepole say it was howard catrter and lord carnarvon.
catfish said... This week in class we have been learning about ancient egypt. I have learned plenty about ancient egypt but the shocker was that Pharoah Amenhotep was the creator of all of the one god religions. That is an interesting fact about Ancient Egypt.
The most interesting fact I learned about ancient Egypt is, the tombs that are used for the pharaoh. The most known fact about the Egyptian tomb is that they’re pyramids. However, those pyramids are used to burry the pharaohs after they die, so it’s technically a gigantic gravestone. The pyramid contains, the pharaoh of course, the pharaoh’s accessories, and if the pharaoh had a pet, the pet would usually get killed and get buried with the pharaoh. The pharaohs had so many different accessories such as, gold, silver, diamonds, glass, crystal, and linen. Linen back then is like suede and leather or patent leather. Another fact about the pyramids is what pyramids are made of. Well, it’s kind of hard to believe but, pyramids are most likely made of mud bricks. The ways they make the bricks is by leaving mud dry up, and then shape it or something. Sometimes the brick would end up neat but, usually it’s messy and disorganized. I hope you learned some facts from what I told you.
